LORCA DISAPPEARANCE OF GARCIA

Andy Garcia, Esai Morales, Edwards James Olmos, Jeroen Krabbe

Triumph Pictures; Directed by Marcos Zurinaga

Rated R; 142 minutes; 1997

In 1936, Spain lost one of its greatest writers when Federico Garcia Lorca was assassinated. This fictionalized account of the events surrounding his death is a "whodunit" rather than a biography or documentary. The action turns on the character of Ricardo (Esai Morales), a Spanish journalist who, along with his family, lived in exile in Purerto Rico. Having grown up in the grip of an obsession with Garcia Lorca (Andy Garcia), Ricardo returns to Spain twenty years after the poet’s death to find out who fired the fatal bullet and why.
