In the Australian Outback, a family of sheep drovers who are always on the move are divided about settling down and buying a farm or continuing with the life they have always known. Strong father Paddy Carmody (Mitchum) wants to continue with the life they are leading but young son Sean begins to yearn for a more stable life. The mother (Kerr) is torn between the two important men in her life as this film explores the ties that bind a family together during changing times. This film features phenomenal performances from the entire cast and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
